On May 20, 2020, mass testing resumed in Eastleigh, Nairobi, amidst a government-imposed lockdown declared two weeks earlier.
According to Dr. Josephine Kibaru, Director of Health Services at the Nairobi Metropolitan Services, residents were urged to come out in large numbers to be tested.
The testing exercise took place at three locations: St Teresa's Boys Secondary School, New Eastleigh Primary School, and Zawadi Primary School.
Eastleigh was classified as a hotspot after a surge in COVID-19 cases, prompting the government to restrict movement in and out of the area.
On May 6, the government had declared a 21-day cessation of movement in Eastleigh and Mombasa's Old Town due to increased COVID-19 cases.
As of May 19, Kenya had recorded 963 confirmed virus infections and 50 deaths, with 358 recoveries.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe attributed the newly detected cases to the analysis of 1,933 samples.
