On May 18, 2020, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon Ukur Yatani wrote to the Parliamentary Budget Office, seeking amendments to the proposed 2020/21 budget estimates submitted to Parliament.

The Treasury is seeking to include a KSh53.7 billion Post COVID-19 stimulus package, already approved by President Uhuru Kenyatta, in the 2020/21 budget estimates.

Additionally, the Treasury is requesting the inclusion of KSh26.4 billion for Nairobi Metropolitan Services, KSh1.5 billion for the renewal of Mukuru slums in Nairobi, and reallocation of KSh4.55 billion funds used for leasing of motor vehicles from the State Department for Interior to National Treasury.

Other requested amendments include KSh1.35 billion for the Presidency, KSh2.5 billion for the Ministry of Interior, and KSh100 million for a climate action project to be run by Treasury and financed using donor funds.

According to CS Yatani's letter, the amendments will be funded through a combination of budget realignment, additional funding from development partners, and mopping of surpluses from parastatals.

The total amendments amount to KSh56.2 billion, comprising KSh19.5 billion in Development budget estimates adjustments and KSh36.7 billion in recurrent estimates.
