On May 20, 2020, a shocking story of deception and conning emerged in Kenya, as a group of impostors, including Peter Manjau, were arrested for masquerading as Citizen TV reporters.
Manjau, who claimed to be a Citizen TV reporter, had been conning people in Nairobi, Nyeri, and Nakuru, among other places, by promising to run their stories on the popular TV station.
According to reports, Manjau and his accomplices, Doreen Waiganjo and Githaiga Karanja, had been contacting people, including ex-NACADA boss John Mututho, and putting pressure on them to provide information for a report that was supposedly needed for the 1 p.m. bulletin.
However, Mututho, who had a hunch that something was amiss, alerted the police, who arrested the trio.
Manjau's social media pages are filled with photos of him posing with politicians and celebrities, which is a common tactic used by conmen to gain the trust of their victims.
Reactions to the story have been pouring in, with many Kenyans expressing their outrage and disappointment at the actions of Manjau and his accomplices.
