Africa's Covid-19 Cases Rise to 88,172, Disease Agency Says

As of Tuesday afternoon, Africa's Covid-19 cases had risen to 88,172, a significant increase from the 84,634 cases reported on Monday, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

The continental disease control and prevention agency noted that the virus has spread to 54 African countries, with 33,863 people having recovered from the infection as of Tuesday afternoon.

The death toll due to the Covid-19 pandemic across the African continent surged from 2,766 on Monday to 2,835 by Tuesday, according to Africa CDC.

The northern African region is the most affected area, both in terms of positive Covid-19 cases and the number of deaths, with a fatality rate of around 3.4 per cent of all cases in the continent, Africa CDC estimated.
