On May 20, 2020, Ghanaian President Dr. Nana Akufor made a bold statement, rejecting foreign aid and calling it a 'pandemic' that hinders Africa's development.

According to the President, Africa doesn't want to be a 'deficit place' for other countries to come and 'get the footage' to develop famine stories, demeaning the continent and its people.

He emphasized that Africa is a rich continent with everything it needs to develop without external assistance, citing the example of the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has 30% of the world's mineral reserves but is listed as the poorest country in the world.

The President also praised Tanzania for rejecting aid and renegotiating terms with Chinese multinationals, calling for Africa to wake up and shun wars to build stable countries with good leaders who will steer the continent to greater heights.

He concluded by saying, 'We don't want Africans to have a scar on anybody's conscience, we don't want to be pawns or victims and certainly do not want headline writers to continue competing on lurid adjectives to describe our continent and people.'
