NSE Turnover Rises to KSh584 Million

On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) witnessed a surge in market activity, with a total of 19,262,300 shares traded in 955 deals, valued at KSh584.9 million.

The market turnover rose to KSh584 million, a notable increase from Monday's KSh337 million and Friday's KSh1.6 billion, when 37 million shares were transacted.

The Banking Sector maintained its dominance of trading activity, with shares worth KSh273 million transacted, accounting for 46.72% of the day's traded value.

Equity actively moved 4.2 million shares valued at KSh155 million, with KCB share prices rising 4.30% to KSh37.60 and moving 2.3 million shares valued at KSh87.9 million.

On the other hand, Diamond Trust Bank was down 2.27% to KSh75.25, with 133,000 shares valued at KSh10 million changing hands.

The NSE 20 share Index added 13.59 points to stand at 2007.49, while the All Share Index NASI picked up 1.40 points to settle at 140.68.

Among the prime movers were Nation Media Group, Scangroup, KenGen, E.A Breweries, and Safaricom, which saw significant trading activity.

Compared to the previous trading day, Tuesday's data showed a 63% improvement in volume, a 73% improvement in turnover, and a 7% improvement in deals.

The Bond market also witnessed significant activity, with bonds worth KSh1.98 billion transacted.
