MIUI 12 Global Rollout Begins in June ¶
As scheduled, Xiaomi unveiled the latest version of its custom Android overlay, MIUI 12, at the end of April. The update was initially available in China, but a global reveal today has revealed the devices that can expect to make the jump to MIUI 12 over the coming weeks.
On May 19, 2020, Xiaomi announced that the following devices will receive their MIUI 12 updates in June:
- Mi 9, Mi 9T, and Mi 9T Pro
- Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro
MIUI 12 brings sweeping changes to Xiaomi's own take of Android, including improved performance, global floating windows, enhanced privacy controls, and a new Ultra Battery Saver.
Since MIUI has always been Android platform-agnostic, Xiaomi is able to roll it out without necessarily being tied to the release timelines of new versions of Android, like version 11 which is currently under testing and won't be launching until later in the year.
