Copyright Claims Against 'Gere' Song ¶
On May 19, 2020, a controversy erupted in the music industry when Brazilian singer Iza accused Tanasha Donna and Diamond Platnumz of copying her song 'Brisa' in their hit track 'Gere'.
The song's reception was initially positive, with fans praising the creativity and originality of the video concept. However, soon after its release, fans began to notice a striking similarity between the choreography of 'Gere' and Iza's 'Brisa', which was released 10 months prior.
The song's director, Kenny, was quick to respond to the allegations, taking to Instagram to express his frustration and disappointment. He described the claims as 'theft in broad daylight' and emphasized that the similarity between the two songs was just a coincidence.
However, the controversy did not end there. The song was eventually pulled down from YouTube, only to be reuploaded in unclear circumstances. The dust settled, but the issue remained a topic of discussion in the music industry.
Defending their song, Diamond Platnumz's director stated that no one owns an idea and that the similarity between the two songs was just a result of creativity. He added that if they had copied Iza's song, they would have also used the same beach and props in the video.
