On May 19, 2020, Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang'ata tabled a motion to impeach Prof. Kithure Kindiki as Senate Deputy Speaker, citing his alleged role in frustrating President Uhuru Kenyatta's agenda in the assembly.
Kindiki, a Tharaka Nithi Senator, had previously snubbed President Kenyatta's Jubilee Senate PG at State House last Monday, further fueling speculation about his loyalty to the President.
The impeachment motion is the latest development in President Kenyatta's ongoing purge of Ruto's allies, who are accused of sabotaging the President's Big 4 development agenda.
