On November 23, 2019, a horrific incident occurred at a home in Kariobangi North estate, Nairobi, where an 11-month-old baby girl was allegedly defiled by her father, Mr James. The incident was discovered when the baby's mother's friend unexpectedly knocked on the door and found the suspect holding the naked baby.
The mother had left the child in the care of her 14-year-old son, who had gone out to play with friends, leaving the baby alone in the house. A neighbour informed the mother that her daughter had been crying continuously, prompting her to return home and find the baby had been defiled.
Mr James was subsequently charged with incest and indecent act with a child. He denied the charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Angelo Kithinji of the Makadara Law Courts and was freed on a Sh 500,000 bond. The case is set to resume on July 29, 2020.
