Published on May 19, 2020, the Assets Recovery Authority (ARA) has been investigating Patrick Nyoike, the finance manager of the Kenya Ports Authority, and his wife Jacinta Wambungu, over their multimillion-shilling real estate and bank accounts.

The ARA plans to make a formal application in court to repossess the assets, which were allegedly acquired illegally. This move comes as Nyoike and his wife face charges in court.

Patrick Nyoike's position at the Kenya Ports Authority is now under threat, with the board considering firing him or having him resign. The board's decision is likely to be influenced by the ongoing investigations and the potential for Nyoike to be removed from his position.

Meanwhile, a Mombasa court has issued summonses to two directors of Nyali Capital Limited, who are at the center of fraud allegations involving senior officials at the Kenya Ports Authority.

Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti directed Alfred Hinga Nyoike and Peter Ndichu Kinyanjui to appear in court on May 26 to take their pleas. The court acknowledged the challenges posed by the government's lockdown in Mombasa County, as well as Kwale and Kilifi counties.

Wanjiku Mohammed, the lawyer for one of the suspects, denied the charges against her client. She claimed that the move to block her client from the race to succeed the previous Kenya Ports Authority managing director, Manduku, was well-calculated and aimed at stopping her client from being a threat to other applicants.
