On May 19, 2020, a group of Jubilee Party MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto's faction expressed their defiance against the ruling party's alleged intimidation tactics.
The MPs, led by Kikuyu's Kimani Ichung'wa, Mathira's Rigathi Gachagua, and Dagoretti South's John Kiarie, claimed that the ouster of their colleagues in Senate leadership and the proposed censure of some MPs at the National Assembly were aimed at silencing them.
However, the group vowed to remain steadfast in their opposition to the ruling party's political trajectory, warning that the onslaught would only embolden them.
As the ruling party extends an olive branch to other competing political interests, the lawmakers insist that the current clamour for a post-election coalition is misguided.
Instead, they are calling on parliament to focus on its oversight role in managing funds allocated for the COVID-19 pandemic response.
