On May 19, 2020, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua unveiled a Sh350 million governor's office, dubbed White House, which has left many in awe. The complex, modelled after the United States White House, features a penthouse, helicopter pad, sauna, gymnasium, and swimming pool.

The White House has two wings: the West wing houses the governor, his chief of staff, and executive meeting lounges, while the East wing is home to the First Lady's office, the governor's advisers, and other support staff. The building's bulletproof windows and doors are a testament to its luxurious design.

The county government contributed Sh204 million to the construction of the building, with the remaining funds coming from factory owners in Machakos, mainly Indians and Chinese, who were forced to supply construction materials and wares.

Despite the grandeur of the complex, some governors and dignitaries have questioned its necessity in a region struggling with hunger. The White House has already hosted the Council of Governors meeting, with Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and his team in attendance.

As Governor Mutua prepares to leave office in 2022, after serving two terms, the White House complex is set to serve as a lasting legacy for the county.
