Published on May 18, 2020, in Madrid, Spain, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso expressed his willingness to return to Formula One, seeking a top-level challenge.
Alonso, a two-time world champion with Renault in 2005 and 2006, quit Formula One at the end of the 2018 season. However, he has been linked to a potential return to Renault after Daniel Ricciardo's departure for McLaren in 2021.
At 38, Alonso has been racing in various series, including the Dakar Rally and the Indianapolis 500. He finished 13th in his Dakar Rally debut in January and plans to compete in this year's Indianapolis 500.
Alonso's long-time adviser, Flavio Briatore, believes the Spaniard is ready to make a comeback. Briatore told Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, 'Fernando is motivated. A year out of Formula One has done him good. He has detoxed himself and I see him calmer and ready to return.'
