On May 19, 2020, JamboPay launched a digital platform to make it easier for consumers to access various market products despite the coronavirus movement restrictions.
Called JamboPay.Market, the mobile-based multi-vendor e-commerce platform is designed to link genuine Kenyan small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), manufacturers, and farmers to consumers, providing home deliveries of ordered goods.
Shoppers can access the website to order goods, which will be delivered to their preferred location. Once a client buys an item, they will be required to submit details such as the quantity of the product they want to purchase, their location, and when they want the items delivered.
After submitting the details, clients will be prompted to enter their address and pay for the items through mobile money transfer platforms. The platform will then generate time estimates for the delivery of goods to the buyer's doorstep.
According to JamboPay Chief Executive Officer Danson Muchemi, the platform will ensure that there are no fake sellers/vendors, and quality products will be delivered within 24 hours or even as quickly as two hours in some cases.
“One can order for products from genuine sellers and get them at the comfort of their doorsteps in a move aimed at curbing the spread of the Covid-19 virus,” Muchemi said during the launch of the e-platform.
He added that the joining fee/sign-up for farmers and SME vendors has been zero-rated to enable local traders, farmers, and manufacturers to move to e-commerce, thereby mitigating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on trade.
