As the world grapples with the Covid-19 pandemic, Kenya has been taking steps to contain the spread of the virus. The country has recorded over 1,000 cases and 50 fatalities, prompting the government to extend the nationwide dawn-to-dusk curfew by another 21 days.

While the government's efforts to combat the virus are commendable, critics argue that the measures taken are too severe and restrictive. The curfew, which has been in place since March, has been extended until June 1, and the government has also closed the country's borders with Somalia and Tanzania due to the high number of imported cases.

However, the government has allowed the movement of cargo trucks into the country, with drivers being screened for the virus before entering. This move is seen as a balance between safety and economy, as the country relies heavily on trade with its neighbors.

President Uhuru Kenyatta's commitment to unity and inclusivity has been evident in the government's response to the pandemic. The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which aimed to promote national unity, has been widely supported by leaders across the political divide.

However, critics argue that the time for unity and inclusivity is not when citizens' lives are at risk. The government's decision to extend the curfew and close borders has been met with criticism, with some arguing that it is too restrictive and will have a negative impact on the economy.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the government remains committed to finding a balance between safety and economy. The National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus is working tirelessly to make the right decisions for the country, and the government has a long-term strategy in place to combat the virus.
