According to the bank, the funds will be directly channeled to Red Cross and UNICEF programs, providing emergency relief to communities affected by the pandemic.
Of the total contribution, Ksh32 million (USD 300,000) will be allocated to the Red Cross for urgent medical support, including primary and secondary healthcare, communication of protection measures, and distribution of food and care packages.
Another Ksh90 million (USD 850,000) will be directed to UNICEF for the immediate protection and education of vulnerable children, including remote education via TV, radio, online, and mobile platforms, as well as child protection measures.
Speaking at the cheque presentation, Standard Chartered Bank Kenya CEO Kariuki Ngari emphasized the bank's commitment to supporting communities affected by the pandemic.
"Standard Chartered Kenya is proud to contribute to COVID-19 emergency relief measures by making available these funds to Red Cross and UNICEF programs that reach the most vulnerable people in our communities," said Ngari.
