As the world grappled with the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, residents of Uthiru ward in Nairobi showed kindness and compassion to their neighbors in need.

Under the initiative 'Donate a meal; Touch a life campaign', residents from Ndumbu-ini, Gitire, Gituamba, Reli, and Gakobu donated foodstuff, facemasks, and sanitizing products to residents in rural and informal settlements.

The campaign raised Sh120,000 in cash and Sh60,000 worth of food donations, which were used to feed approximately 150 families.

Each household received a package worth Sh1,000, consisting of 4kg maize flour, 2kg wheat flour, 2kgs rice, 1kg beans, 1kg sugar, 1 litre cooking oil, 1 bar of soap, and 1 piece of face mask.

Most of the beneficiaries were tenants from different parts of the country who had been trapped in their homes due to travel restrictions.

Two children's homes, Jesus Helpers and Divine Mercy, also benefited from the campaign, receiving generous packages from the area residents.

According to campaign organizer Mr. Andrew Munyaka, the food drive was a success, with many residents willing to share what little they had with their neighbors.

Ms. Minnie Ngina, the campaign treasurer, thanked Uthiru residents for their generosity and urged local politicians to honor their promises to their constituents.
