On Friday, May 15, 2020, Egerton University made a significant donation to the Nakuru Level Five Hospital in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The university presented a coronavirus testing booth to the hospital, which will be used to protect medics as they test masses.

The booth, designed by Dr. George Owino, an engineer at the university, is a crucial innovation in the fight against the pandemic. It can be used at border points, airports, and bus terminus, and other areas with many people, without the risk of medics getting infected.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Prof. Rose Mwonya, the Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University, commended Dr. Owino for his innovative solution. She stated, 'The university will continue playing its crucial role of seeking for solutions for the epidemic.'

Prof. Mwonya explained that the booth will protect medics as they carry out mass testing, as it is not known who is positive or negative, and the medics could get infected in the course of duty.

Dr. Owino explained that the booth's elongated special gloves ensure that, as a person is being tested, there is no contact with the medic, since they are enclosed in a special glass. He added that already Baringo and other counties have requested to be supplied with the booth.

Receiving the donation, Dr. Joseph Keryo, the head of clinical services at the hospital, said they were excited since the new innovation has the capacity of protecting medics.
