On May 18, 2020, Saumu Mbuvi, daughter of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, took to social media to condemn police brutality after her father-in-law was shot in a recent incident.

According to Saumu, the shooting occurred despite it being daytime, sparking her outrage against police brutality.

She expressed her frustration, stating, 'They shot my father-in-law yet it was still daytime. Police brutality must stop. Everyday we get cases of them shooting innocent citizens and nothing is being done. It’s time this ends.'

Her sentiments were echoed in another statement, where she urged the police to stop taking advantage of their power to intimidate innocent citizens, saying, 'Police brutality must and should stop. we are tired! Stop taking advantage of your power to intimidate innocent citizens.'

It's worth noting that President Uhuru had recently extended the nationwide curfew from 7pm-5am until June 6, 2020.

Saumu and her partner, Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip, recently welcomed a baby girl, and in a previous interview, she revealed that they met in Mombasa and became friends before they started dating.
