The Rise of Maina Kageni ¶
Published on May 18, 2020
Millions of Kenyans tune into Classic 105 every day to listen to Maina Kageni's hearty laughter, but few know the story behind his rise to fame.
Born in Muranga, Maina's life took a dramatic turn when his father passed away at a tender age, leaving his mother to raise him alone.
Despite the challenges, Maina's mother instilled in him a strong sense of determination, which would serve him well in his future endeavors.
After completing his education, Maina traveled to the United Kingdom in search of better opportunities, but his plans took an unexpected turn when he began working as a truck driver and fish distributor for a Chinese firm.
It was during this time that Maina's mother was planning to celebrate his graduation, unaware that her son had other plans.
As Maina revealed in a Q&A with fans on YouTube, 'For the 25 years, my mum only forgave me last year.'
Despite his mother's initial disappointment, Maina's career took off when he was offered a job at Capital FM, where he began working as a radio presenter.
He later moved to Nation FM, KISS FM, and is currently at Classic FM, where he has become a household name.
When asked about his latest acquisition, a BMW 2020 X6 sDrive40i, Maina described it as 'the only one of that mode. How can I describe the color? It's a dark metallic chocolate.'
With a price tag of over $100,000, the BMW X6 is a car that car pundits claim will make you ecstatic, with features such as VERNASCA leather, power-adjustment, and four-way lumbar settings.
As Maina himself said, 'Life is short and you should enjoy your life whichever way you find, those kind of cars are my devil, aki I have worked hard, my God, you gotta enjoy your life, if you can afford something get it, life is not a rehearsal.'
