On May 17, 2020, Kiambu County received a crucial donation to aid in the fight against COVID-19. A food processing firm, Kevian Kenya, donated 100 beds valued at Sh10 million to help manage coronavirus patients.
According to Governor James Nyoro, the donation was a significant step towards supporting the county's efforts in combating the pandemic. He called on other corporates to join in and help equip hospitals and quarantine centers.
Out of the 100 beds, 50 will be installed at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Thika, while the rest will be set up at Tigoni Hospital, a public health facility dedicated to handling the virus. Joseph Karanja, the principal of Thika KMTC, expressed confidence that his college could handle 150 coronavirus isolation cases.
Kimani Rugendo from Kevian Kenya explained that the beds were made by the company's subsidiary firm, Ramani Recyclers, using recycled waste Tetra Pack papers. He stated, “We want to join hands with the government in the fight against the deadly virus and ensure normalcy returns,”
