On May 17, 2020, Kenya reported 57 new COVID-19 cases, with Mombasa accounting for the lion's share of 35 cases.
The National Emergency Response Committee analyzed 2,198 samples, with the youngest case being 2 years old and the oldest 61 years old.
Of the 57 cases, 34 were males and 23 were females, according to the committee's statement.
The cases were distributed across various counties, with Nairobi reporting 17 cases, Kajiado reporting 3 cases, and Kwale and Kitui counties each reporting a single case.
Within Mombasa, the cases were spread across Mvita (22), Likoni (4), Changamwe and Nyali (3 cases each), Kisauni (2 cases), and Jomvu (1 case).
In Nairobi, Kibra registered the highest number of cases at 9, while Eastleigh and two other cases were from mandatory quarantine centers.
Additionally, Agha Khan Hospital, Kamulu, Dandora, and Pangani each reported a case.
The committee also reported that 12 more patients had been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 313.
There were no fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, with the death toll standing at 50.
Furthermore, 12 Tanzanian truck drivers who tested positive at Lunga Lunga (11) and Taveta (1) border points were denied entry into Kenya.
