Covid-19: Kenya's Cases Rise to 887 After 57 Test Positive

On May 17, 2020, Kenya reported a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, with 57 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours.

The Ministry of Health announced that the total number of confirmed cases had risen to 887, marking the highest number of cases recorded in a single day since the first coronavirus case was reported in the country on March 13.

According to the Health ministry, 34 of those who tested positive were male, while 23 were female. The youngest person to test positive was two years old, and the oldest was 61.

The ministry tested 2,198 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of samples tested to 43,712 since March.

Additionally, 12 more people had been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 313. No deaths had been recorded in the last 24 hours.

The Health ministry urged Kenyans to continue adhering to measures to control the spread of the virus, including frequent handwashing, social distancing, wearing face masks in public, and maintaining high hygiene standards.

Just a day prior, President Uhuru Kenyatta had extended the dusk to dawn curfew for a further 21 days.
