On May 17, 2020, Chinese Ambassador to Israel Du Wei was found dead in his apartment in Herzliya, a suburb of Tel Aviv, Israeli media reported.
According to reports, Mr. Du, 58, was discovered dead in his bed, and the cause of his death has not yet been determined.
Mr. Du had been appointed ambassador in February 2020, having previously served as China's envoy to Ukraine.
He was married and had a son, but his family was not believed to have been in the country at the time of his death.
