On May 17, 2020, Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu, a close associate of President Uhuru Kenyatta, revealed the reasons behind the Head of State's decision to go against Deputy President William Ruto.
According to Ngunjiri, DP Ruto and his allies betrayed President Kenyatta by engaging in corruption, a move that the President had declared war on.
The lawmaker also accused DP Ruto and his allies of undermining President Kenyatta's efforts to unite the country by opposing the handshake between the President and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Furthermore, Ngunjiri stated that DP Ruto and his allies launched ghost projects in the Central region in a bid to politically build themselves, which angered President Kenyatta.
Additionally, the lawmaker accused DP Ruto and his allies of fighting government agencies and officers, citing BBI, DCI, EACC, and National Metropolitan System.
DP Ruto and his allies also claimed that President Kenyatta was fighting them with corruption allegations, which further angered the President.
Lastly, Ngunjiri stated that DP Ruto and his allies engaged in early campaigns, undermining and derailing President Kenyatta's efforts to push for his big four agenda.
