Uganda Virus Cases Rise to 203 Amid 43 New Truck Driver Infections

On May 16, 2020, Uganda recorded its highest single-day COVID-19 infections, with 43 truck drivers testing positive, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 203.

The new cases were among 1,838 samples from truck drivers tested on Friday, with 17 Ugandans, 14 Kenyans, five Tanzanians, two Burundians, four Eritreans, and one unknown national among the positive cases.

The truck drivers arrived at Mutukula, Malaba, and Elegu borders, and further details about the positive cases were yet to be released by the Health ministry.

As of May 16, 2020, a total of 143 truck drivers had tested positive for COVID-19 in Uganda, while 720 community samples tested negative.
