Using a combination of security footage, cellphone videos, 911 calls, and police reports, The Times has reconstructed the 12 minutes leading up to Ahmaud Arbery's fatal shooting.
According to the reconstructed timeline, the events began at 1:08 PM on February 23, when a witness reported a suspicious person to the police. The caller described the individual as a black male wearing a yellow shirt and black pants, later identified as Ahmaud Arbery.
At 1:14 PM, a second witness called 911, reporting a possible burglary at a nearby home. This caller also described the suspect as a black male wearing a yellow shirt and black pants.
Meanwhile, a neighbor, William 'Roddie' Bryan, had begun following Arbery in his truck, claiming he was trying to protect his neighborhood. Bryan's actions would later be questioned by investigators.
At 1:23 PM, a third witness called 911, reporting a possible altercation between Arbery and Bryan. However, this caller did not mention a burglary.
Tragically, the situation escalated, and at 1:25 PM, Arbery was shot and killed by Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis McMichael.
The reconstructed timeline raises questions about the events leading up to Arbery's death and the actions of those involved.
