On May 17, 2020, Mwatate MP Andrew Mwadime wrote to Speaker Justin Muturi, seeking clarification on the suspension of Kevin Safari, the former Commissioner for Customs and Border Control at the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Safari was sent on compulsory leave by KRA Commissioner General Githii Mburu and replaced with Pamela Ahago in acting capacity. Mwadime claims that Safari was sent home illegally for three months without being granted an opportunity to show cause.

According to Mwadime, Safari is the only senior government official from Mwatate Constituency. In a letter to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Safari had requested an investigation into the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the decision to charge him with matters surrounding the troubles at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

“The thought that I presently face imminent threat to my employment and reputation yet I have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the protection and promotion of public interest is at least unfortunate,” Safari wrote in his letter.
