On May 17, 2020, Taita-Taveta County Assembly Members expressed concerns over Governor Granton Samboja's decision to sack two Mwatate Special Municipality board members, citing disobedience of the law.

The MCAs, led by Speaker Meshack Maganga, directed County Secretary Liverson Mghendi to furnish the House with a report on whether Mr Samboja followed the law when sacking the two officials.

Mr Maganga also raised concerns over the spending of Sh50 million from the World Bank, stating that the new appointment was a clear disregard for the law.

According to reports, Governor Samboja sacked chairperson Martin Tairo and replaced him with Thomas Jumwa Nyambu, while also sacking the board's chairperson for Finance Committee Erick Mlati.

Mr Maganga gave the committees up to Wednesday to present the report, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the county's governance.
