Former Arsenal manager Unai Emery has spoken out about his time at the club, questioning Mesut Ozil's commitment and attitude during his 18-month tenure.
Emery was sacked by Arsenal in November 2019, a move that many attributed to his strained relationship with Ozil.
Speaking to The Guardian in 2020, Emery said, 'I spoke a lot with Ozil. He has to be self-critical too, analyse his attitude and commitment.'
Emery's comments come after Ozil himself spoke about the 'hard time' he experienced under Emery earlier in the year.
Emery had previously suggested that his treatment of Ozil was influenced by the club's hierarchy, a claim that Ozil disputed.
Despite his efforts to help Ozil, Emery ultimately decided not to make him captain, a decision that was reportedly made by the players themselves.
Emery's comments have sparked a renewed debate about Ozil's time at Arsenal, with many questioning whether the midfielder was given a fair chance to succeed under the Spanish manager.
