On May 16, 2020, Tottenham forward Son Heung-min made his way back to London, marking a significant milestone in his journey after completing his compulsory national service in the South Korean Military Corps.
During his time in Seoul, Son excelled among his peers, finishing among the top five performers in the South Korean Military Corps.
With the coronavirus pandemic in full swing, Son was able to fully recover from a broken arm that had threatened to rule him out for the season.
Moreover, the pandemic allowed him to carry out his national service without it impacting his career, a significant advantage given the usual 21-month duration of the service.
Thanks to his exemption, earned after being part of the national team that won the Asian Games in 2018, Son only had to complete three weeks of service.
Now back in London, Son will not have to self-isolate unless he tests positive for coronavirus, in line with Premier League and Government protocols.
He is set to be back at the club's Hotspur Way training ground next week for solo sessions and could be free to join in group training as and when the Premier League allows it.
