At the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Norway's Erling Braut Haaland, 19, marked the league's return with the first goal in Germany's top flight in two months.
Haaland's strike was followed by goals from Raphael Guerreiro and Thorgan Hazard, as Borussia Dortmund dominated Schalke 4-0.
