On May 16, 2020, President Kenyatta announced a nationwide dusk to dawn curfew extension in a bid to tame the spread of Covid-19.

The curfew, which was initially set to last for 21 days, has been extended by another 21 days, bringing the total duration to 42 days.

According to the President, the extension is aimed at reducing the number of people moving around during the night, thereby reducing the risk of transmission.
