On May 16, 2020, Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga received a donation of infra-red thermometers from the Foundation for Dialogue Kenya, a non-governmental organization.

The thermometers, critical in the diagnosis of Covid-19, will be deployed at all entry points in the county to screen people in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.

Foundation for Dialogue Kenya's director, Dr. Michael Mugo, said the organization was also supporting community health volunteers with sanitizers, personal protection equipment (PPEs), and other initiatives.

As part of the county's efforts to combat the pandemic, Governor Kahiga had activated a raft of measures, including erecting roadblocks along major roads leading into the county, where travelers would be screened before being allowed to proceed.

Teams of health workers will maintain round-the-clock screening at entry points such as Kangocho, Nanyuki-Nyeri border, Nairutia, Kariko, and Mukurwei-ni.

The county's fire department also undertook a major fumigation exercise in both Nyeri and Karatina towns, targeting key areas such as bus terminals, markets, and streets.

Residents were urged to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health to tame the spread of the disease, including washing hands regularly and observing social distancing.
