On May 16, 2020, French police apprehended Felicien Kabuga, an 84-year-old Rwandan fugitive, in the Paris region.

For over 25 years, Kabuga had been on the run, with claims that he was hiding in Kenya and being protected by those in power.

However, the governments of former Presidents Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki maintained that he was never in the country, despite increased international pressure.

Kabuga, a businessman during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, is accused of funding the mass killings that left over one million people dead.

According to the French justice ministry, Kabuga was living under a false identity in a flat located in Asnieres-Sur-Seine near Paris.

US investigators had previously searched for Kabuga in Kenya in 2003, but were unable to apprehend him.
