Parents of Oshwal Academy in Nairobi have been given a deadline to pay a significant portion of their school fees to ensure their children can continue with online learning.

According to a court order, the parents must pay at least 80% of the total school fees by May 20, 2020, as a condition to continue receiving e-learning classes.

The court ruling comes after a group of parents moved to court seeking to pay less than the full amount of school fees.

Academic consultant Jyotsna Chotai, in an internal memo to parents, stated that the school would follow the court's advice and await the hearing of the case scheduled for June 8, 2020.

Ms. Chotai explained that the court had ruled that the case would be heard on June 8, and that parents seeking to avoid disconnection from the e-learning platform must pay at least 80% of the school fees, including any arrears, by May 20.

While the school management acknowledged the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, they also stated that they would contest the case filed by a section of the parents.

As the school awaits the outcome of the case, they expressed gratitude for the resilience shown by the parents' community and confidence in emerging stronger from the pandemic period.
