Over 200 families have been left homeless in Ruai, Nairobi County, after a mass eviction on Friday night.

The eviction, carried out by the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, was part of a bid to reclaim grabbed land in the area.

The land in question had been set aside for the expansion of the Dandora sewerage treatment plant, which the Government had declared the only wastewater treatment plant for the city.

Just last week, the National Government had halted further demolitions at Kariobangi North Estate after close to 5,000 families were also evicted from their homes.

On Friday night, the affected families were forced to spend the night in the cold, sparking uproar on social media pages across the country.

Published on May 16, 2020, barely a month after the Land Ministry and the Ministry of Water and Sanitation moved to reclaim the land.
