Italian football bosses are optimistic about resuming Serie A on June 13, but the path forward is uncertain. The Italian football federation (FIGC) and Liga Serie A have been working on a health protocol to ensure the safety of players and staff.
However, many clubs are concerned about the logistical difficulties of implementing the protocol, which includes a two-week group training period and quarantine for the entire team and staff in the event of a positive test.
Some clubs, such as Inter Milan, AC Milan, Atalanta, Napoli, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, and Genoa, are opposed to the idea of training next Monday without more guarantees. Others, like Lazio, are pushing for a return to action.
The government has been sticking to a cautious line, with Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora saying that the government is ready to study individual quarantine based on the evolution of the contagion curve in the next 10 days.
Italian football bosses are due to meet Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte next week to discuss the resumption of the championship.
