On May 16, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed retired Supreme Court Judge Jackton Ojwang' to chair the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) for four years.
Justice Ojwang', who left the Judiciary in February 2020 after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70 years, will oversee the State agency responsible for regulating the importation, refining, production, distribution, and pricing of petroleum and coal products.
With an illustrious 17-year career in the Judiciary, Justice Ojwang' was first appointed a High Court judge in 2003 and later elevated to the Supreme Court in 2012 as one of the seven pioneer judges of the newly created apex court.
However, his tenure at the Supreme Court was marred by controversy, with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) investigating him on several occasions over claims of misconduct. He was even suspended by the President in 2019, but was later cleared by a tribunal formed to investigate his conduct.
