On May 15, 2020, the county Assembly dealt a significant blow to Governor Charity Ngilu's administration by rejecting her nominees to the County Public Service Board.

The rejection was made by a majority vote, with MCAs citing the nominees' failure to meet the required academic threshold and professional experience.

During the heated debate, bribery claims were made by some MCAs, while others argued that the governor should be given time to nominate new candidates.

Speaker George Ndoto announced that the Assembly had rejected all six nominees submitted by the governor on February 14, citing their lack of academic credentials and professional training.

The rejection is a significant setback for Ngilu, who has been operating without the employment board for close to eight months following the expiry of the previous board's term.
