Kenya's public finance management has been on hold since August last year, when the tenure of former Auditor General Edward Ouko came to an end after serving for 8 years.
However, the Public Service Commission (PSC) has now taken steps to fast-track the recruitment process for a new Auditor General, publishing the names of 10 shortlisted candidates in a special Gazette Notice.
The shortlisted candidates include Leonard Lari, Edwin Kipkoech, Benson Ochieng, Silvester Ngei, Elizabeth Wangui, Idris Abdi, Meshack Obiero, Nancy Kabui, Paul Wangila, and Denis Theuri.
According to the PSC, the position had attracted 64 applicants, and the public has been urged to submit views on the shortlisted candidates by May 22 ahead of the interviews scheduled for June 2 to 3.
Public Service Commission Chairperson Stephen Kirogo stated that the position was re-advertised to ensure competitiveness, and that the government was committed to fast-tracking the recruitment process until the substantive holder of the office is appointed.
“Consultations were made and the position as of now is that the position will be re-advertised so that more Kenyans can offer themselves for appointment as the next auditor general. That being the case the steps as provided for by the law will apply,” Kirogo said.
