May 15, 2020 - The start of every year is a time for optimism and new beginnings. We make resolutions, set goals, and look forward to a brighter future. But what happens when the pandemic forces us to re-evaluate our plans?

A friend shared a video of a pastor claiming to have 'visited' all the months of 2020, convinced that it would be a great year. But the caption was more interesting: 'Huyu atafutwe achapwe ngoto' - 'He who is sought will be found.'

As we look back on our resolutions for 2020, it's clear that the pandemic has forced us to trash many of them. Ambitions are good, but they can also lead to frustration and disappointment. The problem comes in when we want to live ten years as if it's an hour.

While the pandemic is terrible, it's a good excuse for the rush that some of us might have found ourselves in. It's time to think about when we next set our goals, having in mind that the future can be unpredictable and not everything has to be done when it's scheduled.

So, let's go easy on ourselves and our resolutions for 2020. If the pandemic is the reason your goal has to be pushed forward, that's okay. And if you need a little push, find respite in the caption of one meme: 'I won't add 2020 to my age because I never used it.'
