President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to make a crucial announcement on Saturday, May 16, regarding the nationwide night curfew that has been in place since April 25.
The 7pm to 5am curfew was extended for a further 21 days as part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the deadline for its review ends on May 16.
According to Rashid Aman, the Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of Health, the government is now discussing the future of the curfew, which was initially put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
On Friday, the Ministry of Health reported a significant increase in COVID-19 cases, with 781 positive cases recorded in the country, including 23 new confirmations in Nairobi, Wajir, Mombasa, Kajiado, and Namanga.
Three patients also succumbed to the virus, raising the death toll to 45.
President Kenyatta is also expected to address the status of the lockdown imposed in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Mandera, as well as the reopening of the tourism sector, which has been allowed to operate under strict measures.
