Published on May 15, 2020, the Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards have announced their nominees for the Best African International Act category, with Kenyan artists Sauti Sol and Nadia Mukami making the cut.

Media personality Shaffie Weru, a member of the BET awards academy representing East Africa, revealed that the nominees were chosen through a rigorous process involving the top minds in entertainment.

According to Shaffie, the academy submitted five nominees each from over 30 acts, and the list is now available on the BET website. The final round of voting will determine the winners.

Other East African artists nominated for the award include Harmonize from Tanzania and a Ugandan act.

Shaffie Weru emphasized that the BET awards are unique in that the winners are chosen based on merit, unlike African elections where numbers can be manipulated.

"This is about there being an academy of the top minds in entertainment and choosing the best artistes for each category," Shaffie said.
