On May 15, 2020, Nicholas Musonye, a seasoned football administrator, officially declared his interest in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidency.
With over two decades of experience in football management, Musonye expressed his desire to bring his expertise to the table and develop the game in Kenya.
“People have lost hope in Kenyan football. I want to restore hope in Kenyan football,” he said in an interview with NTV.
Musonye dismissed claims of government sponsorship, stating that he would manage resources from the government and Fifa effectively and develop football across the country.
He cited the government's interest in sports development and the youth's potential to earn a living from football as his motivation.
As a former journalist at the Daily Nation and Secretary General of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa), Musonye has a strong background in football administration.
He joins a list of candidates vying for the top football job, including FKF president Nick Mwendwa, his predecessor Sam Nyamweya, Mombasa businessman Twaha Mbarak, and former Harambee Stars midfielder Seif Mutie.
The FKF county and national elections have faced challenges, with the Sports Disputes Tribunal stopping the process twice due to irregularities.
