On May 13, 2020, an internal memo by JKIA Airport Manager Abel Godo to officials from the Aeronautical Operational Control (AOC) and other stakeholders leaked, suggesting the imminent resumption of passenger flights at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

However, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has denied these plans, stating that the meeting, which was meant to discuss precautionary public health measures against COVID-19, was postponed due to operational issues.

According to KAA Media Relations Officer Grace Odhiambo, the meeting was meant to put in place measures in case flight operations resume, but it never took place. She clarified that the authority is currently putting measures in place, including additional fumigation counters, signages, and social distancing guidelines, in compliance with the Ministry of Health requirements.

Ms. Odhiambo also stated that cargo operations are still admissible, but passenger services are subject to the Ministry of Transport's guidance. She added that the authority is making adjustments, but passenger flights will not resume until the ban is lifted.

Other airports, including Moi International Airport, are also taking similar measures to ensure safety amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
