On May 14, 2020, South Sudan confirmed its first coronavirus death, according to a statement from the president's office.

The victim's identity and other details were not disclosed.

At the time, the country had recorded a total of 231 cases of Covid-19.

Earlier, the United Nations reported that infections had been detected in a crowded civilian protection site in Juba, the capital city.
