On May 13, a group of residents from Block 10 in Eldoret blocked the Eldoret-Iten road in protest after a pack of stray dogs killed a man near the Eldoret airstrip.

Since last year, the dogs have claimed the lives of three people and 25 sheep in the town, leaving residents in a state of fear.

According to Uasin Gishu County Commander Johnstone Ipara, the police are still investigating the origin of the dogs, with the Chief Veterinary Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture being asked to provide local authorities with the necessary drugs to kill the dogs.

Mr. Ipara's statement came after a middle-aged man, Silas Chelong'o, was mauled to death by the dogs in Action Estate, barely two kilometers from the Eldoret Central Business District.

Chelong'o's wife, Cynthia Chebii, narrated the circumstances surrounding her husband's death, saying that he had not arrived home by 9 pm on the fateful day, and it was only when a village elder informed her of his mutilated body that she was shocked.

Ms. Chebii expressed her grief, stating that her husband was the breadwinner and his death had dealt a significant blow to her and their three children.

Residents have pointed out that the number of stray dogs has increased since some residents of Block 10 were evicted, and that the dogs started attacking people and livestock after an abattoir in the area was shut down.
