As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, Kenya's herders, also known as pastoralists, are facing an unprecedented crisis. The worst locust invasion in 70 years has left their livestock devastated and crops destroyed.
According to reports, a new swarm, 400 times larger than the previous one, is expected to hit the region, further exacerbating the situation. With less vegetation for grazing, herders are increasingly infringing on neighboring land, leading to violent conflicts.
Josephine Ekiru, a peace-builder, is working tirelessly to mitigate the situation, as economic insecurity caused by the pandemic fuels attacks on herders.
